Foodguide Montepulciano: where to eat
Discover the best places to eat of Montepulciano. Whether you’re seeking the perfect pasta with an unexpected twist or craving authentic Tuscan flavors, the restaurants in Montepulciano offer an array of gastronomic wonders. From the picturesque views at Restaurante La Casina Montepulciano to the authentic Tuscan cuisine at Sette de Vino in Pienza, each dining spot tells its own delectable story.
Indulge in the simplicity and taste of a delightful gelato at Buon Gusto Gelateria and stumble upon unexpected treasures like Dispensa dei Golosi, a wine bar with a surprising selection of delectable sandwiches and wines. While Caffè Poliziano might charm you with its vintage aesthetics, explore it cautiously for its offerings may not match its delightful ambiance. And while 2.0 Beer and Wine may look inviting, it left us unimpressed with its service and pricing. Though our journey didn’t cover them all, other recommended eateries, like La Bottega del Nobile and Ristorante La Grotta, promise a gastronomic adventure worth exploring in Montepulciano. Join us as we uncover the best dining havens and hidden gems in this charming Tuscan town!
Restaurante La Casina Montepulciano
My dear niece and Montepulciano connoisseur came up with this dining tip and I am very grateful to her. The restaurant is located just outside the city where you can enjoy a beautiful view outside. As a tip, I received the pasta with asparagus and strawberry sauce. Say WHAT!??? Yes sounds a little freaky, but WOW what a good combo this is. We only ate pasta here, but you can dine here incredibly well and extensively. If you are in Montepulciano you should definitely stop here.
Sette de Vino
In cute Pienza, in a cozy square, you’ll find this great restaurant. You can’t order pizza or pasta here, but real Tuscan food as the owner was able to tell us. At lunch I decided to go for the bean soup and Leroy, of course, opted again for something with meat. ALas an appetizer, we had some bruschetta. The food was great and also super affordable. Go eat here if you are in Pienza! You won’t regret it.
Buon Gusto Gelateria
Of course, a gelato is not to be missed in Tuscany. You can get a great ice cream at Buon Gusto gelateria in Pienza. Great!
Dispensa dei Golosi
The Riposo (siesta) in Italy takes a while to really get into your system. For example, we regularly went to a small town dead around 3 o’clock to get something to eat. Tough luck, because really everything is closed then and the restaurant that do open almost never serve food around this time. Because we couldn’t really find a restaurant in town, we accidentally ended up at Dispensa dei Golosi. A stroke of luck. Although this is actually a wine bar, the owner was able to make us a delicious sandwich. In fact, the wine bar also has a deli where you can buy various wines, cheeses and sausages. I chose a simple sandwich with aged cheese and tomato, and Leroy especially (how could it be otherwise) a special sausage. The sandwiches were simple, but really super tasty. And that for about 5 euros per sandwich. I also chose to be surprised with a local Tuscan wine, which I liked so much that we immediately took a bottle home. OOk we bought some cheeses here to take home.
Caffè Poliziano
Caffè Poliziano is truly a picture to behold. This classic coffee bar is open all day. Inside, time seems to have stood still. Everywhere you will find vintage cups and saucers and nice authentic detail. You also have a very cozy balcony with a great view where you can sit. We came here in the morning for a cup of coffee and a croissant. Although the café looks beautiful, we found the rest a bit disappointing. The prices are really huge and the people were not particularly friendly. Still, it is well worth walking in here and having a cup of coffee.
Don’t! 2.0 beer and wine
Something I don’t readily do is recommend against restaurants, but this cafe made such a bad impression on me. In fact, we decided to have a drink at 2.0 beer and wine. It looked super cozy and hip, but We weren’t really impressed with the menu so we decided to just have a drink. There was no drink menu, but they recommended Leroy a local beer and I chose from a house wine. However, the owners behaved a bit strange and vague and I think were quite annoyed that we did not come to eat anything. At checkout, we suddenly had to pay 12 euros for two (not so fantastic) drinks. For a good glass of wine or I quietly pay 6 euros, but this was just a simple house wine without explanation which was poured just as quickly.
