RV / Motorhome Bathroom MAKEOVER
One of the main reasons for buying a new camper is that we really wanted a camper or van with its own toilet. In fact, when we purchased our Captain Vantastic, we knew for sure that we did not need a toilet. I’ll buy a bucket on the road or I’ll just dive into the bushes somewhere, I boldly proclaimed to people. Stupid me.
Our van was way too small to fit a bucket anywhere, and when we went wild camping we often had 10 campers lined up and there wasn’t a bush to be found. Ohhh and let’s not forget the stray dogs. Nope…. I wasn’t exactly eager to seek out a bush by myself at night. So requirement 1 of our new bus or camper there had to be room for a bathroom stall.
From “the bathroom will come some day” to a complete makeover
The bathroom of our Fiat Ducato motorhome was pretty standard. Ugly plastic cabinets, a terrible floor and dull walls. The previous owners had still tried their best to “pimp” this space a bit with sticky notes, but not really successfully.
Since the entire alcove suddenly needed to be addressed, we decided to leave the bathroom anyway. At least I maintained this for 1 week. In fact, that’s when we spontaneously decided to paint the bathroom door yellow and the project got completely out of hand. Before I knew it, I was standing with a black van, a roll of wallpaper and a gold mirror giving the bathroom in the camper a complete makeover.
Bathroom cabinet painting
We had some green paint left over from the kitchen cabinets, so I decided to give the upper cabinets a deep green color. Just with simple paint from praxis and this went amazingly well.
I sprayed the sink and cabinets with a spray can suitable for stoves black with the idea that if it is heat resistant I’m sure it can withstand some water. The spraying was really super easy and fast. You really have to tape everything, though, because the paint really gets everywhere. A mouth mask is also essential.
Now that we had colored the cabinets, the walls couldn’t be left behind. We chose a nice cheerful and colorful wallpaper. But what a hell of a job. After all, you have absolutely no space and you have to wallpaper around the cabinets and windows. Terrible! Especially when after the first strip – which took me about 1 hellish hour – I found out that I had placed the wallpaper the wrong way around. Yup I am an idiot Sandwich! I Whether I repurposed the wallpaper? Of course not! For an hour you heard nothing but swearing and whining from the RV bathroom, so I was pretty much done with it. Gold mirror over it and we pretend it’s a new trend.
Floor, chalk paint, accessories and you’re done
Hands, arms, face, legs and hair, after a day of painting I am really completely covered in paint. Yup…I am the world’s chaotic builder of all time. Unfortunately, the bathroom floor bore the brunt of this as well. It was one big green, yellow, black spot pallet. So the black brush went over this as well.
A small section of the walls got a coat of chalk paint, because I ran out of wallpaper 🙂 and I finally had a spot for my gold mirror that I’ve been wanting to hang for a year. I am totally happy with the bathroom.
